Maravilla, an active retirement community in Santa Barbara, won the prestigious Beacon Award for “Best in Wellness” from the International Council on Active Aging and NuStep.

The award highlights organizations that embrace wellness as a way of life for all residents and staff and recognizes their exceptional commitment, creativity and culture.

Maravilla has been ranked among the top 25 communities across the country. Sister communities, The Village at NorthRidge in California and Maravilla Scottsdale in Arizona, also received a Beacon Award.

“Well-being encompasses seven key dimensions – emotional, physical, intellectual, social, spiritual, occupational and environmental – which, when cultivated, can collectively enrich well-being, quality of life, overall health and longevity,” according to a statement from the ICAA.

“Aging well involves more than just special programs and events, but requires an intentional and continuous pursuit of potential and possibility. We are pleased to recognize communities of seniors who excel in fostering a mindset and environment that emphasizes promise and opportunity,” said Collin Milner, Founder and CEO of ICAA.

At Maravilla, wellness is embedded in the company’s Zest initiative, which offers a proactive and holistic approach to wellness based on personal enjoyment and new experiences focused on three core areas: mind, body and soul.

Launched in 2018, the evidence-based initiative aims to measure and improve residents’ quality of life, creating a more active, engaged and healthy lifestyle.
