Residents of Birchwood Retirement Village revitalize garden

RESIDENTS of a retirement village in Birchwood enjoyed rolling up their sleeves and getting their hands dirty last month.

It was part of efforts to revitalize the community garden, organized by Your Housing Group and grounds maintenance partners, Tivoli.

Tivoli has donated £500 worth of plants to help locals repot and redevelop the village garden space.

Mosslands Sheltered and Extracare Scheme aims to ensure that over 55s can retain full independence, whilst benefiting from communal services in a friendly and secure environment.

The Tivoli team worked alongside residents of Mosslands who brought pots, rolled up their sleeves and put their green thumbs to work.

One of the residents, Margaret, said: “The common areas are lovely.

“I can’t take care of the garden myself, but I like to come and sit here and watch the land.”

Russ Nixon, Social Value Manager of Your Housing Group’s Community Regeneration Team, said: “It was wonderful to get out and enjoy the garden with our residents.

“The past two years have been tough for so many people, so it’s wonderful to see them out today and realize our vision of creating more places for people to thrive.”

One resident, Eric, said: “”I really enjoyed the day, thank you. I will enjoy taking care of my plants.

Another resident, Graham, said: ‘It was brilliant and I even got tips on how to maintain my hanging baskets.’

Neil Simpson, Tivoli’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are extremely proud to support the residents and Your Housing Group with this project.

“The day was a great success, not only for environmental transformation, but also as a great example of residents and businesses coming together to create communities they can be proud of.

“It has been a real pleasure, and we look forward to more great days working with Your Housing Group and their residents.”
