McKinney retirement community to create hundreds of homes on 11-acre lake

A new retirement community en route to McKinney will create more than 400 residences built in a park-like setting overlooking an 11-acre lake.

Touchmark at Emerald Lake will be built at 350 S. Hardin Blvd., south of Virginia Parkway. The 81-acre development site is west of US Highway 75.

Dallas-based architect Three designed the senior citizen community. It is a project of Touchmark communities based in Oregon.

The first phase of McKinney’s development will include 149 independent residential residences, six duplex casitas, 84 assisted-living residences and 32 memory-care residences. The houses will be ready in 2023.

“The opening of our first community in Texas provides an opportunity to build the largest and most exciting project in our 40-year history,” Touchmark CEO Marcus Breuer said in a statement. “Building on the remarkable landscapes and the many nearby attractions, we are delighted to build a retreat setting unlike anything we have developed before. “

Andres Construction will be the general contractor for the project. Along with Architect Three, the interior design firm is StudioSIX5 and the landscape design will be by Talley Associates.

The community will include lakeside and hilltop outdoor activity spaces and several indoor and outdoor dining venues. Future construction is planned to add a health and fitness center with a pool, spa, lounge and dining area, as well as more homes.

“At Three, our mission is to create design that uplifts the human spirit,” Director Rocky Berg said in a statement. “For our clients like Touchmark, that means delivering architecture that creates an emotional connection with the resident and their family, leveraging connections to nature and the vibrant McKinney community. “

Based in Beaverton, Oregon, since 1980, developer Touchmark has built 13 communities in nine states and Canada.
