Former Celtic star announces retirement and sends emotional message to fans

It’s always a bittersweet moment to see former Celtic players end their playing careers and announce their retirement. But that’s only part of football. The career of a professional footballer is very short and even the lucky ones spend at most a few decades on the pitch. A number of them are however moving on to coaching and it seems that Paul Caddis will do it too.

Caddis was highly rated as he progressed through Celtic’s youth ranks but was never able to establish himself as a star at senior level. He would go on to have a decent career in the south after leaving Parkhead, playing for the likes of Birmingham City and Blackburn Rovers. He also represented the Scotland national team.

Caddis’ last stint on the pitch came with Swindon Town. He would take a break in 2021 and try his hand at coaching, and now it looks like he will take on that task full-time and has announced his retirement from the pitch.

Caddis sent an emotional message on Twittereven mentioning how he was able to fulfill his childhood dream of playing for Celtic in front of 60,000 fans at Parkhead:

Caddis can certainly be proud of the career he has had, playing for both Celtic and the Scotland national team, as well as several other fine clubs.

Now it looks like he will focus fully on training and it’s possible he could team up with Scott Brown in the future at Fleetwood Town, should the stars ever align.

We can only wish Paul good luck in all he does in the future and congratulate him on a wonderful playing career.
