Construction begins on Homewood Grove retirement community
Willmott Dixon has started construction work on the Homewood Grove retirement living community for Rangeford Villages.
A 4.7 acre brownfield site in Chertsey, Surrey will be turned into a retirement community for the over 60s.
It will include 116 one, two and three bedroom apartments as well as resident facilities including a wellness center (swimming pool, steam room and sauna), gym, dance studio, bistro and bar, café, a members’ lounge, a village hall, activity room and a hair and beauty salon.
Each apartment is designed with underfloor heating, double-glazed floor-to-ceiling windows and an all-electric power system to help keep bills down and reduce environmental impact.
Other initiatives include a photovoltaic array on the flat roof, air-source heat pumps for the swimming pool, car charging stations, an electric car for the swimming pool, as well as public transport for residents.
“In line with strong regional demand for quality, environmentally friendly living solutions for the over 60s, we are delighted to have started construction and to be working with Willmott Dixon as our main contractor for the project,” said Howard Nankivell, CEO of Villages of Rangeford.
As reported in July, Rangeford has partnered with Octopus Real Estate to develop the project, which has a gross development value of £90million on completion.
Richard Poulter, Managing Director of Willmott Dixon’s Central South Region, added: “Through the scheme we will be offering a wide range of community initiatives, and this includes support for apprenticeships and work experience placements, while that our social value team will interact with local schools to showcase the career opportunities created by the construction industry.
The integrated retirement community is expected to be completed in the spring of 2024.
